My initial interest in Japan stemmed from reading Haruki Murakami novels as a teenager and young adult. The vast place he wrote about seemed so completely different from my small town just outside of Perth, Western Australia. I would imagine myself in that landscape, either the bustling city of Tokyo or the wilderness of Hokkaido.
When I eventually got to experience Japan in person there was no looking back, it would always be a part of who I am to this day. The first time I came here was for a holiday 5 years ago. My first solo adventure. I have been back here a few times since then but decided to make it more permanent in October 2017.
Working at OEC makes my experience here all the more worthwhile. I have learnt so much about Japan and about life in general just from talking to the students and the other teachers. I feel so privileged to spend time communicating with such incredible people. English has always been a passion of mine so I’m happy to share that passion in a productive and rewarding way.
