Ashwagandha

Howdy-doody, Chalin here. As I wrote in my previous health related post, in the face of COVID-19, I`ve been looking for natural alternatives and holistic ways to boost my immune system to optimize my health, physically, mentally and spiritually during these most uncertain times. I`ve made some interesting additions to my mostly vegan diet and Ashwagandha has been the one I`ve felt has benefited me the most.

Also known as Winter Cherry and Indian Ginseng, this marvelous medicinal root has been proven to have countless benefits for the body and the brain. This Ayurvedic/ancient Indian medicine promotes balance in the body. As an adaptogen, it helps with stress, lowering cortisol (stress hormone) levels, fighting symptoms of anxiety and depression. It’s a mood stabilizer. A powerful remedy for insomnia, it also improves ones quality of sleep. Ashwagandha boosts brain functions, focus and mental clarity, heightens attention and performance. Physically, it boosts athletic agility, muscle growth, strength, and bone health. Reduces inflammation. Lowers cholesterol & blood sugar levels. It has anti-cancer properties. it even stops hair loss. The list of benefits seem almost endless, so if you’re looking for a cute new addition to your morning smoothie or for your pre-bed time drink, you may have just hit the jackpot. One must take at least a 2 to 6 grams daily, results felt instantly for some and up to three weeks for others. I add a few teaspoons to my morning smoothie. My morning smoothie recipe is below. You`re welcome.
