私の英語勉強法

私は、長年、英会話を勉強してきましたが、何かに役立てようとか資格を取ろうとかではなく、単に自由に海外旅行をし、ネイティブスピーカーと楽しく会話をしたいと思っているからです。
そこで、私がいつも不便を感じているのが、ボキァブラリーとリスニング能力の不足です。
普段から、VOAやBBCのニュース番組を聞くようにしていますが、未だに辞書なしで理解する事が出来ません。
難しい単語はもちろんですが、簡単な単語であっても、RとL、OとA の発音の違いを聴き取れなくて理解できない事がしばしばです。
その中には、ゆっくり話してもらえれば聴き取れるものもあります。
そして、なんとかボキャブラリーを増やそうと毎回のレッスンでのメモはもちろん、日常生活の中で気になって調べた単語などをノートに書き溜めています。
暇なときに持ち出しては覚え直していますが、覚えるはしから忘れていくのできりがありません。
覚えなければならない単語は無数にあるのですから。そこで、忘れたことをあまり気にしない事にしました。
ですから、同じ単語を何回も何回も覚え直しています。
そうしてるうちに、ひとつ気が付いた事は、ただ教えてもらったり覚えたりしただけでなく、自分で会話の中で使ったものは良く記憶に残ると言うことです。
そして最も記憶が定着するのは、自分が間違って使って訂正されたものでした。
もうひとつの勉強方法として、英語の本をできるだけ多く読むようにしています。
最近は、Kindleで電子書籍を買って読んでいます。Kindleでは辞書は必要ありません。
わからない単語が出てきたら、その単語を指で長押しすると、意味を示すウインドウが現れます。とても便利です。
本を選ぶ時も、自分が興味を持てそうなジャンルのものを選ぶようにしています。今は、ハリーポッターとか赤毛のアンとか、読んでいます。
しかし、最も、有効で貴重で楽しい方法は、ネイティブスピーカーとの会話を出来るだけたくさん持つ事だと思います。
OECのレッスンでは、わからないときはいつでも質問出来ますし、先生方は、いつも丁寧に、そして辛抱強く教えてくださいます。
話題も豊富で、それぞれの生徒の興味に合わせて選んでくださっているので毎回のレッスンが楽しみです。
ロンドンに旅行に行ったとき、日ごろの成果を試そうと、何か話題を見つけては現地の人に話しかけてみました。
しかし、現地に行くとレッスンを受けてる時のようにはいきません。外国人だからとゆっくり喋ってくれるわけでもなく、また色んなスラングや訛った英語が飛び交います。
ほんの簡単なセンテンスでも聴き取れない事がわかりました。
ただ、レッスンの成果で、わからない事を聞き返したり、又、こちらの伝えたい事を知らせることは出来るので、一対一の会話では不自由はありませんでした。
現地の人同士の会話や公共施設のアナウンスなどはさっぱりです。
このように、私の英語は一進一退といったところですが、ネイティブの先生たちと会話する事自体が楽しく、常にもっと上達したいという気持ちは持ち続けています。
そして、海外にたくさんの友人を作って視野を広げていければと思っています。

My way of practicing English
I’ve been practicing English for years, because I’d like to travel abroad and communicate in English without stress. I think my weak points are listening and the less vocabulary.
Then I usually listen to the VOA or BBC news. But in almost all news, I can’t understand without a dictionary. And I can’t catch the fast English, especially the connecting sound, R or L sound, and O or A sound. If the foreign people speak a little more slowly, I would be able to catch that.
For increasing my vocabulary, I take notes of what I learned in every class. But when I memorize one word, I forget another one. It’s like a spiral. The number of words that we have to learn is innumerable, so I decided not to worry about even if I forget some words. I’m learning the same words again and again. And the certain thing I can say is that if I use a word in a conversation, I could memorize the word easier than a word I just learned.
Another way of practicing English is reading books. I try to read English books as many as possible. Usually, I read books on kindle, an electronic book reader.
On kindle, I don’t have to consult a dictionary. I can check a meaning only by putting my finger on the unknown word a little longer. It’s very convenient. Especially, books that I’m very interested in are good for my practicing. For example,” Harry potter”,”Anne of green gables” like that.
But, the most useful, valuable and interesting way of practicing English is to have a lot of conversation with native speakers. In every Oec lesson, I can ask any question, and all the teachers answer politely and patiently. And they have so many topics that they can deal with any subject that students like. That’s why I can enjoy Oec lessons.
When I went to London, I wanted to check my English skill. I tried to speak as many people as possible. Then I found that I couldn’t understand just only an easy sentence. Because they spoke very fast, used slangs, and each of their pronunciation are different. So, I thought I shoud be able to catch an easy sentence, as well as learning the difficult words.
In this way, My progress of English hangs in the balance. But I’m enjoying English lessons, and communicating with foreign people in English is my fun. I’d like to progress my English more, make many foreign friends and broaden my horizon.
